A hand taking photo with smartphone and the word PHOTOGRAPHY written on the top.

Do you want to know about PHOTOGRAPHY?

Well, this is an art of capturing a moment, things, objects, nature, people, etc into a masterpiece.

In simple words- Photography is just Painting Through Light

Anyone can become a photographer, but it takes a special kind of practice and dedication toward photography.

In this article, I will talk only about the bookish knowledge and my own point of view on photography.

--What is the meaning of Photography?

Photography, defining it in one paragraph or word is not enough. Not even Wikipedia, Google or Books are written on it can define it completely.

Definition:-

A picture made using a camera, in which an image is focused on to light-sensitive material and then made visible and permanent by chemical treatment, or stored digitally.

Taking photo of Camera with phone.

According to me:-

Photography is the art of capturing or freezing a thing, moment or memory in time. Photography is also an art of seeing the same thing differently from other and capture it with a device. Photography is not just taking a picture, it is making a picture by your hard work, right effortscomplete dedication and lots of practice

--What is the Technical Aspect of Photography?

There are many kinds of technical aspects, some are important and some are not so important. And I am talking about a few important technical aspects only, because if I go to the depth of the technical aspects then it makes the article boring.
Important Technical Aspects of Photography:-

  • Aperture
  • Focal Length
  • Light sensitivity
  • Light
  • Exposure

Aperture:-

Aperture means the opening of a ring or hole in the lens that controls the amount of light entering the lens. It is expressed as an f/number(f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8). Wider the aperture gets, the more amount of light entered and makes the image perfect.

Focal Length:-

Focal length means the distance between the lens and the subject. It is usually measured in millimeter(mm). If you zoom the camera means that you are changing the focal length.

Shutter Speed:-

Shutter speed is directly connected to exposure, control blurring, create an interesting effect, getting detail in the image. Faster the shutter speed, less the quality of the image and slower the shutter speed, higher the quality of the image will be captured.

Light:-

Light is the main factor in capturing a successful image. Photography means that painting through light. Light is the most important technical aspect of photography. Better the lighting condition is, best the quality of photo you can able to click.

Exposure:-

Exposure tells you the quality of an image, how dark or light an image will appear when it is captured by your camera. Exposure is directly connected with light. If the amount of light is low then the image will losses its details and known as an underexposure image. And if the amount of light is higher then the normal, it will also losses the details due to brightness and known as overexposure image.

--How many types of photography are there?

If you search on internet then you will find millions of photography types but according to me, there are only two types of photography.

  1. Regular Photography.
  2. Stock Photography.

And rest all are the part of these two Photography.

Regular photograph:-

Regular photography is also known as Real Photography and Original Photography. Regular photography is the photography that can be done by anyone and this photography becomes more common after the discovery of the camera came to phones. Nowadays people click many photos by there smartphone and camera and left the photos in the storage and albums as their memories, or regular photography are generally use as show offing your lifestyle to others through Social Media.

Regular photos are very hard to use for commercial purposes because the photos belong to the Photographer. For using the photo as a stock photo, You have to contact the photographer directly and buy the photo right from them.

Stock Photography:-

You can understand Stock Photography as the upgraded form of Regular Photography. You can make your regular photos as stock photos just by giving a professional touch to it and by sharing the copyright of the photo.

Stock Photography is done for commercial purposes. There are many sites like Shutterstock, Istock, Dreamstime, etc where you can upload your photos and earn money from it.

{NoteI will talk in detail about all the popular stock photos agencies in the upcoming articles}.

Rest all types are the part of Regular and Stock Photography, Like:-

  • Landscape photography.
  • Macro Photography.
  • Advertising Photography.
  • Abstract Photography.
  • Animal/Wildlife Photography.
  • Background/Texture Photography.
  • Building/landmarks photography.
  • Food and Drink Photography.
  • Park/outdoor Photography.
  • Natural Photography.     More….

--What is the use of Photography?

There is much use of Photography but I am talking only about four important uses only. And the last point is the most important and useful one.

  • Photography is a way through which you can show people the world through your eyes. It is like expressing yourself. It helps in seeing the world in a different manner.

  • Photography is like time travel without a time machine. When you saw a photo after a long time, then you go back to that time when the photo was clicked and recognized all the good and bad moments.

  • Photography can freeze the time. Time is one of the things on which humans don't have any control. But Photography is the medium that can pause a memory in the Flowing Time.

  • And the most important use of Photography is, you can make money from it if you take it seriously. You can opt Photography as your career and become professional on it, and you can also generate side income from photography(as part-time) while sitting at your home.

{Note:I will talk on this topic in detail in my future articles}

--Who can become a Photographer?

Anyone can become a Photographer. Anyone having a device that can capture a photo can become a photographer. Photography was hard in the past time (80 s & 90 s), But after the invention of the camera in the Phones, photography becomes easy. 20th Century is the Golden era for photography, Due to Smartphones. In earlier time cameras were too expensive, due to which very few people can afford a camera. And due to this reason, people started thinking of photography as one of the toughest careers.

But in 20th Century time is changing very rapidly, cameras came into smartphones, which can be affordable by maximum people. Smartphones are one of the biggest evolution in photography. Smartphone cameras are giving tough competition to the DSLR’s, and smartphone cameras are improving day by day. There is one Myth among the people that they can click photos like professional only by the  DSLR, But in reality, smartphone camera has also the potential to click photos like professional.

And there is one more misconception that having a Smartphone or DSLR means you are a Photographer. Photography is an art and you can not develop any form of art in one day. It takes Time, Right Efforts, Hard Work, Complete Dedication and Lot’s of Practice for becoming professional in Photography or any form of art.

So, at last- There is no real meaning of Photography. Photography is what you make out of it by your Hard work, Practice, Effort and a little bit of editing. Photography is very easy but it takes time to achieve mastery on it.
